Hello all and welcome to the Release Week Event for Catacombs book three in The Immortal Archives series! I have some great teasers in store for you along with a giveaway for a $20 gift card to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Book Depository! Before I give you those teasers here's a little bit about Catacombs!

SUMMARY

No one will hear her scream.

More than five years have passed since Emily was accidentally infected with the blood of a pure vampire. Now a member of this elite secret organization, it’s time for her to run her trials and determine her place within the hierarchy. After an awkward evening with her leader Gaius, she wants nothing more than to get back to teaching at the Warrior school for demon hunters. But before she even has the chance to leave, she, Noel and Abby are all summoned to deal with the organization’s dirty little secret. Something deadly has been trapped within the catacombs beneath their headquarters for centuries, waiting for the day to wreak vengeance. That day has finally come – and the horror of what lies beneath may destroy them all.

New Adult Urban Fantasy

EXCERPT

Banging again, the door was swiftly yanked open between her third and fourth pound.
Disheveled would have been a kind assessment to the nightmare standing before her. The blackout curtains were still closed, but even in the dimness, Abby could tell Emily looked like she’d gone one-on-one with a weed whacker and lost. Pushing her way into the room, she teased, “Well, that explains why you’re not out there fighting for the attention of a certain bachelor.” Damn, this room is nice.
Emily closed the door and roughly rubbed her hands all over her face. “I may be looking for a partner in life but I’m not desperate for one.”
“And dating Gaius would be considered an act of desperation?”
“Competing for him would be.” Emily dug through her bag, flinging out fresh clothes with so much force they whipped the air. Why she hadn’t put them in the drawers yet, Abby didn’t know. “I mean, why are all these women throwing themselves at him anyway?”
“Well, I’ve only spent so much time with him, but from what I’ve seen he’s nice, smart, powerful, he rules an organization and he allows all kinds of immortals to use his pad as a haven to escape the craziness of the world. Exactly which of those traits were supposed to turn those women off?”
“Whatever. They can throw themselves at him all they want. I’m not gonna play this game.”
Abby couldn’t help but smile, but thankfully Emily was too preoccupied with her bag to notice. “But you already are. You just have a different strategy. Kudos to you for playing hard to get. Being easy certainly hasn’t worked.”
Snapping to attention, Emily actually pointed at her on the way to the bathroom. “I’m not playing hard to get.”
     “Uh-huh. Okay.”
“I’m not!” Emily yelled defiantly as she crossed the threshold. Abby yanked the curtains open to fill the room with much needed light, then nosily browsed the room that felt twice the size of hers and Noel’s. Quite honestly, Abby was surprised the room just had a sitting area instead of an actual living room since it was in the secured wing. She must’ve been given one of the smaller rooms on the floor, but still, it beat hers by far. Gaius had been very generous.
On the table beside her reading chair was a framed photo Abby couldn’t resist picking up. It was of Emily, Darby and Mira, all dressed up for the festival back in Wellas, the little town down the mountain from where the Order’s school was. They were an Athenian goddess, a Swiss bar maid and a glittering fairy – their cheeks cherry red from the cold. She smiled, remembering that night all too well. This was the before shot. Before they got drunk. Before they were jumped on and slashed at by a baby grinloch.
Before it all went to shit.
Before both of Emily’s best friends died.
Two more hunters gone from this Earth. Even with Eraticus gone, they were still dying too quickly.
Her smile now saddened, she placed the picture back.
“So why are you so bent out of shape?” she asked. “Why do you care what these women do?”
“I’m not and I don’t!” Her voice was echoing inside the bathroom, and Abby wondered if Emily had neighbors who could hear her right now. “I just think he can do better, is all.”
“So does he apparently. Otherwise he would’ve picked one by now.” Flicking on the light and opening the closet door, Abby’s jaw dropped before crying out, “Whoa! Holy mother of walk-in closets!”
“What?” she asked, joining Abby in the oversized closet.
“What?” Abby mocked. Fingering through the rack with admiration to the new wardrobe, Abby stated, “You did not bring that much luggage with you. So either you’ve learned a spell to rip off a couture shop or this wardrobe was awaiting your arrival.”
“Yeah, so? Doesn’t your closet look the same?”
Abby felt her muscles take on that are you nuts? face – the one she usually reserved for Noel – and her head slowly rotated sideways. It took a second, but Emily’s expression finally took on a knowing look. “Oh. Oh! Oh, crap.”
“Yeah. Oh, crap,” Abby parroted. Crossing her arms, she curiously asked, “What exactly has happened between the two of you so far, ‘cause he sure as hell hasn’t been this generous with me.”
Uncomfortable with the question, she fidgeted, stammering, “I… Well…”

Review

With the way Ordained ended, I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into Metamorphosis. And I have to say, it didn't disappoint! It was non-stop action from the start. Quit a few times this book had me gasping loudly or holding my breath. I may have even yelled at it once or twice because Devon threw in a curve ball I wasn't expecting but it was a perfect play on her part. Everything was planned out so well and tied in nicely to the overall plot of the story. With how this one ended, I'm anxiously awaiting Catacombs!

Clean YA Fantasy.

Review
So this should have been posted sooner but (1) I'm not a morning person so I refused to wake myself up to post it and (2) RL called me into work.
So what did I think about Dust? FANTASTIC! I felt Rosalie's pain everytime they broke her wings. Felt her longing to go home. Felt her love for Jack. I'm a sap for romance, I really am, and Devon sure knows how to write it well. Dust was absolutely amazing that I seriously read it in about 24 hours. I couldn't even put it down. It was so very descriptive I could picture Rosalie's world and let me tell you, I want to live there in the Hollow. Rosalie is an amazingly badass character and extremely determined to get back home she doesn't let her cockiness shy away from her captors. I loved watching Jack and Rosalie's relationship grow each day she was imprisoned. I won't give away the ending but just know I smiled sooo big but still got heartbroken. I can't wait for the sequel to come out! I want to give Dust like a twenty star rating but since that's not a valid rating, it gets five stars from me!

Dust by Devon Ashley Blog Tour: Excerpt + Giveaway!

I’m still swaying back and forth in a heavenly trance, softly murmuring the song in my head.

No…wait. I’m not the one humming. The sound is deeper, masculine. My eyes flutter, curious to learn the source of the sound. To my disappointment, I’m not swaying in the weeping willow anymore. The sunlight that I thought was peeping through the leaves, sprinkling me with a kaleidoscope effect of lights, is just the flame in the lantern flickering through the wavy glass walls of its prison.

I’m about to moan my opinion of the cruel disillusionment, when I realize my body is still swaying back and forth. But it’s not a willow branch wrapping itself around me, its Jack’s arms, securing me protectively against his body. My cheek is flush against his chest, and my body warm and snug as if cocooned. A heavenly sigh escapes my chest, but neither I nor Jack flinch, and he continues to rock us as he sings,

“When tears and darkness fall
And you can no longer hear my call
Ignore the evil one’s tempting plea
And scurry now to the willowy tree
Wait there you must, until the day
When Mother Nature illuminates your way
I’m afraid it’s the only key
To make the evil tendrils flee
Until then, just swing on the willowy tree”

As he sings, I lift my head to watch the notes vibrate the muscles in his throat. He senses me watching, and his smile is infectious.

“You know that song?” I ask. Duh, Rosalie. Maybe whacking myself in the head wasn’t such a good idea after all – but at least I can blame my stupidity on whatever head trauma I caused.

“Yeah. My mother used to sing it to me as a child. It took me a while to remember the words though. You’ve been singing parts of it in your sleep for awhile now, and it was driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember the words. It was always right on the tip of my tongue. They finally came to me yesterday when you were humming it in your sleep again.”

Lying against his firm chest is so perfect, I can’t help but reach my arms around his body and really snuggle in tight. He doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, his head bends to gently rest atop mine. I gasp quietly inside myself, little sparks of energy popping throughout my abdomen and chest. My heart feels like it’s trying to flip, fighting hard to break its tethers so it can join in the celebration.

We’d been so good to minimize contact since my moan sent him fleeing. But I don’t care anymore. If he’s not going to run from me right now, then I’m going to soak up as much physical contact as he’s willing to give.

I’m suddenly aware that my back is tingling with a numbing sensation. I groan, and elongate my neck to bury my eyes into his neck, too afraid to check the condition of my wings. Timidly, I whisper, “Did they hurt my wings again?”

I already know the answer.

His chest expands beyond normal lung capacity. Once it slowly releases the superfluous air, he quietly replies, “You were unconscious, so Finley didn’t stick around this time. Guess if he can’t watch you scream, he can’t get off on it.” His arms tighten, bringing our abdomens more flush. “Anyway, spriggans aren’t book smart. Most can’t even count. I did the count silently in my head and once I thought they did enough not to question, I told them to stop.” His upper hand sways back and forth, his fingers brushing the skin on my arm in soft, random patterns. “I’m sorry, Rosalie. I wish I could’ve stopped them completely.”

“How many?”

He knows exactly what I mean. “Thirty-two.”

I moan, and not in the pleasurable way that removed his hands in the past. If anything, his body is trying its best to cover as much of my body as possible, as if it could protect me or something. “How long was I out?”

“Four days.”

Now it’s my turn to overfill my chest. Four days? “Seriously, how bad is it?” Jack extends the length of our sway. After several passes, I urge, “Jack?” He continues to ignore my request, and when my head fearfully rotates toward my back, he presses my head firmly into his chest.

“I’m getting you out of here, Rosalie. And soon. Finley’s not getting another chance at your wings. Okay?”

I try to nod, but his grip is immobilizing. And like a fool pixie crushing on an unattainable faerie, I allow myself to be smothered to sleep by his protective grip.

Ordained Blog Tour: Book Review

Ordained (The Immortal Archives #1) by Devon Ashley
Type: eBook
Published: March 25th 2012 by Self (first published April 15th 2012)
ISBN: 0012190446 (ISBN13: 2940012190444)
Website: http://devonashleywrites.blogspot.com/
Summary:
Normally, the school creates the hunters - not the monsters.
Abby Sorrensten likes to play rough. Ripping the horns off the foreheads of demons, manipulating lightning and setting things on fire with the flick of your wrist can give you a serious rush. So she probably wasn't the best choice for the Order's experimental training program. Thirteen years of isolation, lack of affection and a bruised and broken body from horrendous training sessions creates more than just an exceptional fighter. It creates an evil within - an evil responsible for several deaths the night she left.
Two hundred years later Abby resurfaces as the very thing the Order trained her to kill: a vampire. A mythical demon has set his sights on the school and only the ordained hunter has the powers to face it. Unbeknownst to the Order, Abby's their precious ordained one and their only chance for survival. As much as she would love to leave them hanging, she's not willing to risk the life of Emily, a fellow friend and hunter also fed up with the organization.
But for Abby, locking herself away in a fortress with angry descendents of those she killed causes suspicions and tensions to run high. Abby must learn the demon's weaknesses for battle before the Order learns hers.
Review:
The beginning of Ordained starts out with a bang that has you thirsting for more.
Ordained was a new twist on vampires and not to mention the vampire hunters (haven’t read about them at all). I’m not going to lie when I say I really hated the idea of the hunters living in their academy. To me, it was more like a prison without the bars. The story really started to get interesting when Noel and Abby arrived. That’s when we got to know the characters on a deeper level and find out exactly how Abby and Noel survived for two hundred years. There’s also a twist with Emily that I really wasn’t expecting. I was kind of thrown for a loop there. Okay, not really. But I did think I had it figured out and turns out I was completely wrong.
I think my favorite character was Valerie. She was so misunderstood and left out. She was like the white crayon in the box. It’s placed in a box with all these other colorful crayons yet it’s isolated because it’s usually never used. So Valerie is a white crayon. I wish I could think of something better to compare her to but it’s kind of late as I type this and my funny side is really not in its full effect right now.
Oh and Abby, yeah she does some major ass kicking in this book. When you find out everything that happened to her while she was undergoing her training, you can’t help but root for her to come out on top. And she does.
There’s also crazy-ass demons rearing their ugly heads in Ordained. I blame the Order for all the fallen hunters.
If you enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel you’ll definitely love this series! 5 STARS
