Halo of the Sun for web preview
(Comment from Laura): I really do love the colors, and as always, my graphic design artist goes above and beyond.

Sneak Peek:

Wind dashed through the void formed by the dimensional rip, devastating the land. Space and time was a vacuum, ravaging Earth, one mountain, one city, one blade of grass at a time. Matter shattered. People were swept into the fray as a tornado of worlds collided. Ghosting in and out, collapsing in on each other. Refugees fled the Mediterranean, looking to the angels to end the madness as it spread like a disease across the land. But there was no relief. Nowhere to run. Eventually, the dimensions would be one. Creatures surged forth from places unknown, places unseen. Dragons, horned beasts, and fire spirits. Sea monsters and winged giants. Angels flew overhead, fighting back the onslaught. Standing at the brink was a woman. Long, caramel hair cascaded in the chaos, eyes bright, wielding a dagger. Her stance remained firm, regardless of the intensity of the maelstrom and the lightning pouring from her blade. Beside her was a man, golden eyes glowing, shoulders tense. The day was warm and dry, the sky a kaleidoscope of swirling colors as space and suns and gases exploded. Their hands clasped around the dagger, eyes meeting, then she slid the dagger across their palms. Silver blood coated their skin; neither fear nor pain manifested on their faces, only searing desperation. The man produced an ancient key, gnarled, molded into a pearly dragon. Placing it between their bloody palms, they clasped hands and faced the dimensional tear.

Paperback, 1st, 288 pages
Expected publication: May 5th 2014 by Revolution Publishing, Inc.

Stalked by her abusive ex-fiancé, Rae Zachery retaliates by singing karaoke and spilling all their dirty secrets to the entire bar. When her ex attempts to silence her brazen performance, sexy, leather-clad Parker comes to her rescue and soundly punches her ex in the face. As valiant as that may be, Rae finds Parker’s violent assistance unsettling, yet she can’t help but be drawn to him and his tragic past.

Fighting her attraction for Parker is a battle Rae can’t win, and soon their night of sharing secrets morphs into an undeniable bond. But fate won’t so easily relinquish her grip on their happily-ever-after. Instead of blissfully skipping into obscurity, Rae and Parker are subjected to her ex-fiancé’s vicious proclivities. Who knew love could hurt so good?

Excerpt
Parker leans forward, crooking a finger for me to do the same. I glance around the bar to see my friends mimicking sexual acts while gesturing toward us. I glare at them before returning my gaze to Parker.
I lean in, eyebrows high in question. “Yes?”
He brings his lips to my ear, his hot breath fanning over my skin and giving me chill bumps all the way down to my toes. Damn him. “I want you,” he whispers.
He lingers at my ear, the scent of leather and sandalwood wafting off his skin. When he sits back, he’s not smirking or giving me cocky, knowing eyes like I’m expecting. Instead, he continues to watch for my reaction with those penetratingly dark eyes.
All my nerves fire at once—or that’s what it feels like—and I scramble to my feet. My knees hit the bottom of the table, and our drinks tumble over. I tangle with the chair and am about to fall onto the disgustingly sticky floor when strong hands reach over the table and grab my upper arms, holding me steady as my chair crashes to the ground.
My face is on fire as those closest turn to witness my idiocy, many of them cheering what they think is drunken discombobulation. I would bow for my audience, but Parker’s hands are still on me. He smiles as I shake him off.
“Thanks for the save, but—”
“That’s twice now,” he cuts in, sauntering to my side of the table. “I think that earns me at least two songs worth of dancing. Plus, you spilled my drink. Make it three.”
Every fiber of my being is telling me to run from this man as I picture him punching Ian, most likely breaking his nose. As satisfying as it was to see Ian be the victim, it didn't stop the memory flashes of Ian’s own hands gripping me too hard. But Parker might be different, and I tell myself it’s just the fear talking. He could be the friendly, defender-of-women, heart-of-gold type of biker for all I know. “What the hell. I need a little adventure in my life,” I finally say. “But I’m not buying you another beer.”
He grins and wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me against his body. Not at all expecting this, I lose a shoe and clutch his shoulders to prevent my bare foot from touching the floor.
“What are you doing?” I ask, clenching his shirt for support.
“Dancing.” He lifts me off the ground and drags me onto the dance floor, leaving behind my death trap of a shoe.
“But— My shoe.”
“Your friend will make sure no one steals it.” He spins me around to where Cherry is waving my shoe at me, a stupid smirk spread across her face.
I’m going to hide all her mirrors for doing this to me.
“Don’t drop me,” I order, clinging to Parker like a skirt to pantyhose.
“Oh, don’t you worry, darlin’. I’m not letting you go anywhere.”
“Stupid southern drawl,” I mutter under my breath.
It’s been so long since anyone has held me like this: fierce and determined, strong yet gentle. Even though we aren’t paired together like the grinding dancers around us, it feels right. My insides go all swoopy, and I stare up into his handsomely chiseled face, my arms encircling his neck.
Wait. What? No, no, no. He’s a big, ex-fiancé punching, leather-wearing biker who probably has a mermaid tattooed somewhere on his body. Or a naked woman riding a dragon. It’s not my fault I've been sexless for six, long, dreadfully dry months. But, dammit, my body feels so perfectly right against his.
It’s the alcohol, I tell myself. Except I’m not drunk or even remotely tipsy.
“Quit arguing with yourself,” Parker says, twirling me around like we’re at some dance show competition.
“Huh?” I respond stupidly.
“You've got this endearing little pucker between your eyes, and you've been staring at my throat.” He chuckles. “It’s actually quite adorable.”
“Oh.” I quickly school my face.
“First impressions are important—I realize that—but I’m hoping you’ll give me another chance.”
“Isn't that what this little dance is?” I ask, forcing myself to look past his good looks. But those dark eyes don’t seem cruel, and his hands don’t feel aggressive. And the leather.
Dammit. Focus.

The Next Big Thing

The Next Big Thing is a meme where authors share information about the book they’re currently working on (or one that’s about to be released).

I was tagged for this meme by Laura Kreitzer, the author of the Timeless series and Summer Chronicles. I actually met Laura online through the Twilight fandom in 2008-2009-ish (I can't remember what year) before the thought of writing ever crossed my mind. When Laura published her first book, Shadow of the Sun, it inspired me to put my own ideas on paper. I don't know where my writing would be without her.

So what's The Next Big Thing from me? Have a look:

What is the working title of your next book?

Battle Scars

Where did the idea come from for the book?

Where did it come from, you ask? Well, the idea actually came to me while I was showering. Actually it was more of a fight scene between a guy and a girl. And I don't mean a little argument but more of a full blown fight to the death. And they were surrounded by fire. That little beauty grew rapidly into Elemental Reality. From there I decided I wanted to make Elemental Reality a series and continued my plot. I wanted to give the YA community a different take on Faeries and introduce a new supernatural being who are the counterparts to Faeries. Also known as Conjurers.

What genre does your book fall under?

It's definitely YA Fantasy.

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

The two main characters are Callie Pierce and Oli Drayke. I picked Tyler Blackburn to play Oli and Amber Heard to play Callie.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

With the help of old and new friends, will Callie build her battle armor up and fight the evil hands of the Demons who threaten to destroy her new homr or will her battle scars leaver her too broken and empty to fight?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

It'll go through my publisher, Revolution Publishing Inc.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

I'm not going to say because it took me a lot longer than I had anticipated. I was out of writing for five months due to personal matters but things have been back on track since September.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

This is one thing I never thought of. And I'm not sure I can think of any books at the moment.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I'm going to have to say Laura. She believed in this story from the start and I will forever be grateful for her constant motivation.

What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

Aussie hottness, a new take on Faeries, Demons, and Conjurers, elemental-y goodness.

Now I know I was supposed to tag five authors but I only found three. These three authors are amazing, talented, and all fantastic people. Please take the time to get to the know them. I promise they won't bite.

And now for their introductions:

1) Charlotte Bennardo: I became friends with Charlotte on Facebook before actually meeting her. When we officially met at PAYA she asked me to sign her scrapbook (which was a fantastic idea, by the way!) so she could add it to the other signatures. Needless to say, I was ecstatic because it made me feel like a legit author.

2) Rebecka Vigus: I met Becky online through a writing forum and am proud to say I helped her through the process of her first novel. She is so fantastically talented and has a strong passion for writing.

3) Joseph Eastwood: He is simply fantastic. I only know him through Facebook but I basically stalk his updates . . . I mean, what? Expect amazing things from him and go stalk him too!

Next week, these authors will be posting information on their next WIPs. I’ll be posting links on Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus as soon as they go live. Now go forth and stalk these wonderful authors!

Is there still hope to be found here after all? Or will survival mean savagery?

Review
Summer's story begins right where Phantom Universe ends and you're immediately thrown into non-stop twists and turns. Forsaken Harbor definitely outshines Phantom Universe in every way. Being able to "live" through Summer's growth into the person she has become in the second novel was just amazing. There's something about Summer that makes you want to stick with her through everything and help her fight her battles along the way.

The one thing I really enjoyed about Forsaken Harbor was the growth of each character we've grown to love from the first book. And we fianlly get to meet Julian who is just as swoon-worthy as Gage (if that's even possible)! We see the deeper part of what makes Julian, Julian. By the end of the story I was on the fence with the teams (Team Julian or Team Gage). They both hold a special place in Summer's heart and I couldn't decided who to pick.

Just when you think the worst is about to happen, Laura throws in a breath-stopper of an ending. Now you would think being on Laura's editing team I'd know what's in store for the next book but she refuses to tell me. I can't even begin piecing together what the ending meant or what it means for Burning Falls. I suggest getting your hands on Phantom Universe & Forsaken Harbor if you're down for the non-stop action and adventures of a YA Dystopian Fantasy.

5 Stars

About The Author
Phantom Universe by Laura Kreitzer is both well reviewed & currently a free download http://bit.ly/zmMhjR

Laura Kreitzer is a published fiction author who hails from western Kentucky. Her full-time 9-5 job used to be working in a lab devoted to water dye-tracing investigations at Western Kentucky University, though her passion was always writing.

Shadow of the Sun is the first book in the Timeless Series of books about a young woman, Gabriella, who is a doctor in charge of paranormal investigations at an influential government lab. A sudden delivery to her lab reveals the possibility that Angels actually exist and she must use her skills in both science and discernment to decide if the previously thought of science fiction is a reality.

The main character is similar to the author in many ways, the least of which is her incredible intelligence. Both Gabriella and Laura are both strong women who let very little stand in their way.

Becoming a published author is a harrowing, and often disheartening, experience. Laura bravely decided to pursue the path of self-publishing. The editing experience was an exercise in patience as version after version were carefully picked apart for proper grammar, spelling, formatting, and appropriate storyline continuity. After several months of Shadow of the Sun being available for purchase, she was offered a job and an offer to publish her first novel at Obsidian Mountain Publishing, which she accepted.

Although the storyline of Shadow of the Sun poured from her fingertips onto her computer screen, the process itself of bringing the book to life has been one of hard work and dedication and Laura has also decided to use this website not only to promote her book, but also for author support to encourage other writers to publish their work and become authors in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Please keep in mind that this website is a work in progress, as is everything in life. That being said, the team that supports Laura is always ready and willing to answer any questions that adults or young adults may have regarding her process to becoming published and the intense determination she has shown to make it a reality.
